Kyrgyzstan is a country, in which mountains occupy 94% of the territory. How can this modest little known country attract attention to itself? Undoubtedly by its nature. Staggering gorges, where bright green color of grass and spruces combines with absolutely transparent mountain air and crash of heavy rivers and waterfalls. Such a picture can be met in any mountain gorge, but each of them is beautiful and unique. But Kyrgyzstan is remarkable not only by its nature; its culture is also interesting. Kyrgyz people have nomad's roots and they still have all attributes of nomadic life. Here you will see yurts - unusual transportable dwellings, which are adorned with hand-made felt carpets and ribbons, you will taste national dishes and drinks. If you wish, you can even stay in yurt for some time and observe an everyday life: sheep pasture, koumiss preparation, national horse games. Going back to ancient Turkic traditions, yurt absorbed the best from centuries-old experience of people. Kyrgyz tribes, who were occupied with nomadic cattle-breeding in mountain conditions, worked out the most convenient type of transportable dwelling for these conditions, which easily disassembled, transported on pack animals and set again.

Yurt has wooden structure and felt coverage.

Lattice sliding walls (kerege) consist of separate links (parts); they define the size of the yurt. From the outer side kerege is covered with mat, which is made from the stem of a chyi plant. It makes possible to take an airing of a dwelling, protecting it from wind and dust at the same time. Umbrella roof of the yurt contains sharpened bent from one side poles-uuk. With one end, where there is a bend they are fastened to the top of a wall base, with another set into the opening of a rim-tyunduk.

Yurt is made from willow. More dense breeds of trees are used for making massive rim, which crown the yurt, through which smoke goes out from the hearth (birch, archa).

Yurt is covering with thick felt of different forms, well covered frame. It is tyunduk jabuu, tuunduk, uzuktor.

The cover of the rim is movable and smoke opening is easily opening (in the morning) and closing (in the evening) with the help of arcana.

The doorway is curtaining with felt or woven ornamented curtain. yurt is forming for an hour.

Yurt from outside and within is richly decorated with different ornamented manufactures from felt, applications, weaved patterned fringe, many-coloured tassels (chachyk) and patterned braid (terenchek boo).

Over a period of centuries improved not only the jurt but also its interior.

Right side from entry of the jurt considered to be woman's part (epchi jak). Here were colorful bags from felt applications, fabrics (terli), ayak kap, kuzgu kap, where were landlady's headgears, adornments, needleworks and s.o., also there were kitchen utensils. The place for keeping food was separated by a screen from ornamented mat.

Left side considered to be men's part (er jak), there on the wall hanged up best men's clothes and headgears and near exit hanged up harness.

The place opposite entry considered to be the most honorable (tor). Here put up trunks, on which stacked things, which were used in daily life not so often, such as colorful patterned felt mat, carpets and as much, as prosperous considered to be the owners. Such construction is called juk. On the floor of the yurt lay the best felt mat-ala kiyiz, then shirdaks and on them narrow quilts (toshok) or fur beddings-koldoloc. Tor was the center of the jurt. Here received honorable guests, lying in front of the guests' tablecloth-dostarkhan. In the middle lighted a fire and cooked. It is called kolomto. Reach people cooked in special jurts called ashkana.

Poor people lived in smoked small yurts (boz ui, kara ui), where were not only their goods and chattels but newborn calves and lambs during cold time of the year. In yurt a person is surrounded with cozy and comfortable carpets, woven and embroidered counterpanes, quilts, pillows and others items of use, which are often made by the owner. Materials, which need masters, are felt, pile cloth, wool, textile fabrics, straw-chyi, main visual means are color and ornament. This harmony is splendid by its simplicity and expressive power. Color of national Kyrgyz cloth, carpets and embroideries is rich and cheerful. It is made up of strong and contrasting colors, where prevail warm colors - red and brown. Previously masters used vegetable colors, but today they use chemical. Ornament comes from bronze epoch, but little by little it was supplementing and refreshing. Its elements are borrowed from flora and fauna, which surrounded nomads. The main motive of Kyrgyz ornament is curl "kochkor", it is a stylized sheep horn. Tortuous line with rhythmically placed curls is called "kyyal", which translates as "dream", "fantasy". It also resembles a twig of a blossomed tree.
